Korea Biobank Network (KBN)

Korea Biobank Network

Korea Biobank Network (KBN) is a national biobank network made up of the KCDC National Biobank of Korea and human bioresource regional banks located at 17 university hospitals. KBN collects, manages, and distributes large-scale population-based (National Biobank of Korea) and disease-based (17 regional banks) human bioresources through nationwide networks. The Masan National Tuberculosis Hospital and the Korea Institute of Radiological & Medical Sciences have participated in the network as KBN collaborative hospitals since 2013.

The regional banks located at seventeen KBN collaborative university hospitals nationwide collect various human disease resources including blood, tissues, and urine according to the voluntary donation agreement signed by patients, through close cooperation with clinical departments in the hospital. In addition, they secure high-quality disease resources by concluding MOUs with outside institutions and research networks and play an important role as a research-support public infrastructure by distributing human bioresources to researchers quickly and conveniently through the KBN Distribution Support Center.
